The outcome of the next presidential election will most certainly be the result of the last weeks of the campaign. Professions of faith, engagements of all kinds from who will be the savior of the economy, different plans to raise American phoenix from the ashes of the gloomy economy, were part of the programs of the last televised debates and various local rallies.

How can one make a reasonable and factual assessment of the candidates promises, and uncover their true personalities?

After 4 years of crisis, reforms do not seem to be able to get America from a deep economic abyss caused by the demise of the financial system, many voters wonder if democrats promises of change were real.

The extreme polarization of Congress and the suicidal desire of the GOP to undermine all major reforms of the president, have tarnished the image of the country abroad and weakens its position in the eyes of the financial stakeholders causing the first downgrade of the country’s debt in the history.

The misfortune of this administration is to have taken office at the beginning of the largest and deepest economic crisis in modern history. The politician fierceness that this administration endured during the last four years was unprecedented, leading citizens to doubt even more deeply in the ability of the political establishment to work for the good of the nation.

At the dawn of this new election, this PBS – Frontline documentary is an excellent way to understand the career path of the two candidates and foresee what awaits the nation under their rule.

Excerpt: Mitt Romney takes on Ted Kennedy

– Why Mitt Romney changed his positions so many times on so many important issues and why he is still unable to provide details on his plans.

– This tangled vision that leads Romney to consider that everything can be tackled as a product and all means are allowed to sell it.

– Understanding the persistence of the President to pass the Health care reform in the first year of his term while the economic situation was worsening. This surreal idea that everything can be explained and an agreement can be reached with the Republicans if the future of the country and its people was at stake.

– Why Romney promised to repeal the Obama care his first day at the office while he was the first to pass a very similar law as the Governor of Massachusetts, hand in hand with the Senator Ted Kennedy.

– Romney’s French and Bain Capital years and The President’s Chicago and Harvard Years. On one side, the emergence of a consultant, a businessman and a Governor and on the other, the birth of an idealist, a civil rights attorney and a President.

Casting a vote for the next president is a duty and a privilege with major consequences for the country. Let’s not allow this choice to be dictated by appearances and stereotypes.
